In 2017, Team Fly4aCure was founded by Samir and Saar Shah. This team competed in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year Competition. This is a seven-week fundraising competition dedicated to blood cancer research and supporting blood cancer patients. Raising more money than any other candidate in the country, the boys were named National Students of the Year.

This all started by just wanting to bring their local community together by hosting the first Southern Maryland Kite Festival but slowly grew into something that can benefit blood cancer patients everywhere and bring the possibility of a cure into sight.
